More evidence of negative health effects related to PM2.5 is showing up all the time.

According to the American Lung Association:

Studies linking short-term exposure to PM_2.5 to death from all causes have been accumulating for a number of years. Taken together, this body of research provides consistent evidence of positive associations between particle pollution and mortality across diverse geographic locations and in populations with a wide range of demographic characteristics.
